Port Goole 1-3 Upton United

Dion Davies-Sowden20 Mar - 09:11

The Port face defeat at home to Upton United in a tight contest...

The game started out as a cagey affair with neither team able to get a grasp of the pace early on. Port Goole managed to eventually get the ball down and play some good football, early chances missed to take the lead and also a couple of questionable decision inside the area going Upton's way...

Upton managed to open the scoring midway through the first half against the run of play. A long ball over the top found the Port Goole backline sleeping, the Upton striker attempted to lob Charlie Dingley, who managed to get a glove to the ball, but no goal line clearance gave Upton a easy tap in. 1-0 Upton

The Port managed to calm the game back down creating more chances in the first half but non converted. Half Time 1-0 Upton United

The second half was more of the same, Port Goole getting the ball on the deck and playing some lovely football and really dominating the game. The equaliser eventually came from a long ball from Goalkeeper, Charlie Dingley, finding Luigi Foschi who danced around their Left Back and smashed it top bins from 20 yards out. 1-1.

It wasn't long until Upton woke up and grew more into the game. A short pass from Arturs Grigorjevs to Tony Roberts left him short as he was pick pocketed by the Upton attacker, Tony gave it his all trying to win the ball back but due to worlds longest fall, Upton slotted to ball away for 2-1.

Port Goole kept plucking away but couldn't finish the chances they created, something Upton were doing at every opportunity forcing some fantastic saves from Goalkeeper, Charlie Dingley.

Eventually, Upton managed to put the game out of sight late on, a shot from the edge of the box hit the post and landed straight at the Upton strikers feet who made not mistake of slotting it away for 3-1 Upton.

The Port never gave up and battled till the final whistle but it wasn't to be, in a game we didn't deserve to lose. 3 lacks in concentration saw Upton 3-1 winners on the day.

Man of the Match was awarded to Charlie Dingley in goal. A huge improvement since he left to go to Bridlington Town on his scholarship. Great distribution, positioning, huge saves AND an assist. Congratulations Charlie!

We go again... #UTP
