Port Goole 8-4 Lads FC

Dion Davies-Sowden9 Mar - 22:09

The Port pick up back to back wins for the first time this season…

Port Goole found themselves on the right side of a heavy scoreline beating Lads FC 8-2

The match started as Port wanted it to continue for the full afternoon. Right from the off The Port got the basic right, moving the ball, working hard in possession and without. It didn’t take long for an opening to fall to Luke McHugh who found himself isolated against the left back of Lads FC after skipping past their winger. A push in the back whilst in the box meant that Alfie Williams could step up and confidently beat the keeper from 12 yards.

The midfield 3 of Danny Holloway, Ryan Braithwaite and Casey Barker worked tirelessly to win the ball back at every opportunity, which lead to another goal. Ryan Braithwaite picked up the ball, drifting through the middle of the park and slotting Alfie through 1v1, different situation same outcome, 2-0 The Port.

The game looked really positive for Port Goole who pressed high and hard all the way through the first half. The press ended up too much for Lads FC as Alfie Williams pickpocketed their centre half on the edge of the 18 yard box, took a snapshot and made it 3-0 with a 15 minute hattrick.

As the match went on Lads FC grew into the game, working some good chances and forcing some comfortable saves from Alfie Watson. They finally managed to open their account for the afternoon with a long ball over the top which forced Alfie Watson into coming out, after making contact with the Lads FC’s striker, the ref pointed to the spot. Converted 3-1 Port Goole.

Lads FC took great confidence and control from getting the goal and pinned Port Goole who decided to play on the counterattack after the introduction of Lewis Breier, leading the line.

Lads FC were winning more and more set pieces which they eventually took advantage of. Excellent ball in from a corner to an unmarked Lads FC player, great header. 3-2 The Port.

As we approached Half Time tired legs started to kick in and the superb runs of Lewis Breier broke the Lads FC line, Lew made no mistake in slotting the ball home for 4-2 at HT.

Second half was more of the same as Port Goole managed to regain the dominance of the ball and making Lads FC pay.

Breier making a fantastic run from the Right Wing, really putting the burners on and beating his marker, managed the find himself with just the keeper to beat, a checky nutmeg saw Port Goole 5-2 up and being very controlled.

Lads FC managed to pull another back when a poor clearance from a corner was cleared to the edge of the box, Lads FC took a punt at the ball and which hit Mikey Poulton in the face, referee gave handball… (never a handball), Lads FC fired home to make it 5-3.

The Port managed to add another through a corner of our own, as Breier went from goalscorer to goal maker. A great ball into the box found the Nat Dewing in the box who bagged with a great header. 6-3

Breier, again, found more and more space down the right side, making it very difficult to be marked and finding space in behind again saw him add another to his tally, bagging hattrick after starting on the bench. 7-3

Lads FC kept coming back with a reply, working the long ball over the top saw them with a 1v1 situation, which was slotted passed Alfie Watson. 7-4 PG

The boys really dug deep, right till the end. Josh Mallinson who did some fantastic dogwork in the middle of the park, picked up a loose ball and released Ryan Braithwaite down the right side of Lads FC in a 2v1 situation, Ry put in a peach of a cross onto the head of Breier who added a forth to his tally. Port Goole 8 - 4 Lads FC.

Some great performances and one of the hardest games to pick a MOTM from as so many deserved it.

MOTM was awarded to Josh Mallinson who added another assist to his tally and did a Pirlo-Esk performance in the middle of the park.

Thank you to Lads FC for making the trip and good luck with the rest of the season.
