The Port started well in a contest we knew would be difficult, Swillington having a very good season last term and looking like one of the stronger teams in the Centralised League.
A few issues were present in the middle of the park and defence as players working together for the first time started to understand one another.
Port created early chances and eventually found a breakthrough with Shane Carver, an experienced head leading the youth for the night, whipped a free kick at the keeper causing an error and allowing Liam Lindley to knock in his first goal for the club.
Swillington were quick to equalise due to some mix ups with the Port defence but the determination of the lads was present and before long they had reclaimed the lead shortly after missing a clear cut chance from Lindley.
The second goal came from a link up we knew would work, with Braiden Buck cutting through the right wing and placing a perfect pass across to Shane Carver who made no mistake in finding the net, something we have seen time and time again this pre-season.
Swillington were becoming visibly frustrated at their wasted chances and a few cheap fouls given away began to heat the game up.
A third goal for The Port was found, a clever long ball pass from goalkeeper Charlie Dingley found Shane Carver who did what he does best to see the Port claim a two goal cushion.
Port took a well earned lead into the halftime break and a flurry of changes were made to ensure players gained minutes.
A few more fouls from Swillington were thrown in with a dangerous challenge put in on Khai Wilmot forcing him off the pitch with injury, the Swillington player picking up a dismissal for the effort.
Swillington found a second goal with a well worked passing movement cutting the Port defence open foe the first time in the game, but the youngsters resolve kicked in and they held firm for the final 15 minutes.
Josh Russell coming close to adding a fourth goal but narrowly missing.
The main talking point of the match comes in the final five minutes, Wilmot reintroduced to the pitch to help strengthen the wing for the final minutes, collected a ball before being horrendously taken down again, this caused a massive brawl from the Swillington players with one of their players opting to punch numerous Port players in the face.
The Port boys held their heads high and backed away from the situation despite being followed and crowded by Swillington.
The referee had to blow for full time and handle the dramatic situation on the pitch which was the only dampener on an otherwise brilliant debut for our youngsters.
