Saturday 16th August saw the first ever Game 4 Goole take place at the Delta Academy, as Port Goole took on the star-studded Inter Legends in aid of the “Save Goole Hospital” campaign. The match, proudly sponsored by BDK Legal Number Plates, proved to be a fantastic occasion both on and off the pitch – even if the scoreboard told its own story!

The final result read Port Goole 0 – 18 Inter Legends, but let’s not focus too much on that number… In fact, for the first 15–20 minutes, Port Goole held their own superbly, keeping the Inter Legends quiet and playing with real energy. We battled hard, kept our shape, and went in at half-time only 5–0 down – which felt like a small victory in itself against such quality opposition. Unfortunately, the floodgates opened in the second half as the Legends turned on the style, with goals flying in from Dean Windass, Liam Bridcutt, Jordon Ibe, Leroy Lita and Mohammed Mahyoub among others.

While the scoreline might raise a few smiles, the real success of the day was off the pitch. With an attendance of 311 people, together we managed to raise a fantastic £1,050 for the Save Goole Hospital cause. That is something everyone connected with Port Goole can be hugely proud of.

We’d like to give a massive thank you to everyone who supported the event – from players and coaches to volunteers, sponsors and of course the fans who came along to cheer both teams on. It was a brilliant community effort and showed exactly what football in Goole is all about.

And the good news? This was just the beginning. Plans are already in motion for the second Game 4 Goole – and who knows, maybe next time we’ll even score a goal ourselves!
