Diogo Jota

Adam Ruane3 Jul - 22:49

Port Goole to pay respects this weekend..

Following the tragic passing of Liverpool forward Diogo Jota and his brother André Silva on Thursday the club have decided to wear black armbands for all fixtures this week.

Club chairman Adam Ruane had this to say:

"Whilst we did not know Diogo or André personally, nor did we ever share a pitch with them they were still our brother's in sport. For 90 minutes a week a patch of grass spiritually connects us all involved in football and it's moments like these that truly show the value and the strength of the footballing community.

Football is a sport that has an immense power, a power to stop wars, a power to unite against common threats and to achieve common goals and as a community we mourn the loss of our own.

So when we step out on to the pitch this week, we will take them with us in our thoughts and if you feel moved to do so, I implore you to do the same.

May they rest in peace and their legacy in sport and life live on."
